DUMOULIN HISTORY

Dumoulin is located in the heart of a region famed for its craftsmanship and exquisite engraving – British houses routinely turn to Herstal as a source of actions and engraving.  Although they do not command the same "name" premium as the better-known British, Dumoulin rifles are peers in quality if not in price with their British counterparts.

The complete Dumoulin line can be seen at http://www.dumoulin-herstal.com All U.S. inquiries are handled by Empire Rifles, please refer to contact information page to request a catalogue or prepare a custom order.

Dumoulin builds Empire Rifle’s “Empire Grade” pieces –the highest grade, engraved rifles hand-made with old world craftsmanship. All other Empire rifles are hand-made in the United States.  Empire Grade rifles use the Empire 98 action, whereas Dumoulin rifles use a traditional FN 98 action.

De Luxe guns and rifles are typically made by houses bearing their founder’s name.  Most British houses retain the name, but not the founder's input --“name” makers have been purchased by Channel and Cartier; some makers have vanished, others have been transplanted.  Precious few have their founder at the helm, personally stamping his name and reputation on every exquisite hunting piece.

Ernest Dumoulin, the house’s namesake, works on every rifle made, the way craftsmen have worked for two centuries, machining, filing, polishing, and fitting each action, barrel set, and stock to the customer’s specific instructions.  Dumoulin began building rifles 52 years ago at age 14, and imbues the sum of his vast experience and skill into each rifle.  Every time his name is stamped on a rifle his reputation is on the line –a formidable reputation the world over.

Dumoulin caters to kings and princes, heads of state, magnates, professional hunters, and ordinary men and women appreciating the highest quality guns and rifles.  Dumoulin’s colorful clientele includes Belgium’s Royal Family, the Prince of Qatar, the Marquis Antinori, R.L. Wilson, and 1960’s Chicago syndicate boss Sam Pancotta. . .

One of Dumoulin’s favorite projects was winning an order for two hundred and fifty .404 Jefferys for the Tanganyika Game Rangers –a small scandal erupting as the Crown Agent selected Dumoulin over many more famous British houses.

Of Ernest Dumoulin, none other than R.L. Wilson has professed “great respect and regard for his remarkable skills in gunmaking,” calling him “a maker of superb double rifles.” (Source: dedicated photo of R.L. Wilson on Safari, presented by him to Ernest Dumoulin.  Emphasis in original.)
